To create an iconic concierge desk for the Westfield Stratford mall on the Olympics site.
After a SWOT analysis of the concierge desk in Westfield White City to understand what worked, what didn't work, what staff needed and the physical requirements, we jumped on a bus. The natural place to start any piece of design!
TYC wanted to be inspired by the East End of London and really understand the geography, architecture and above all what the arrival of the Olympics would mean for the area. A photo study unearthed a real, honest rawness of the area that appeared to have been preserved by the under development of the district.
The chosen route embraced the arrival of the Olympics and the opportunities it provided the East End of London and those who lived there. The gold and silver organic forms (representing the medals of the Olympics) wrap around the concrete base (the East End) protecting its survival. The amazing form also complies with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) regulations and employed ergonomics to improve operational ease whist addressing staffing requirements.
Project scope: Concept design and 3D modeling
“TYC challenged the very essence of what a concierge desk could be. The design encapsulated the location of the new mall within the East end by combing raw materials with rich, luxurious materials and elegant forms to create the most eye-catching desk we have ever seen! “
