If there is any benefit to the pandemic – dare we say it – designers’ reignited interest in health design might be it.
Pandemic solutions like portable ICU pods and 3D-printed masks have paved the way for new thinking around other long term health solutions. One such example is SCALED, a protective cast for injured joints which allows for more mobility than a traditional cast. Inspired by nature, designer Natalie Kerres looked to animals that have built in, natural protection. Modelled after pangolin scales, finally there is a cast that will allow joints to move and heal at the same time.
